Conte Frustrated By Chelsea’s Injury List

Antonio Conte is distraught at the injury situation at Chelsea , as it does not get any better with Victor Moses limping off in the loss to Crystal Palace.

Chelsea were looking to return to winning ways at Selhurst Park, after going into the international break with a 1-0 loss to City.

However, an Azpilicueta own goal which was cancelled out by Bakayoko, and a Zaha goal, all in the first half won it for Crystal Palace.

To make matters worse for Conte, he had to see another key player in Victor Moses limp off the pitch with a hamstring injury, joining Morata, Kante and Drinkwater on the sidelines.

“I think, in this moment, for us it’s a very difficult moment. When you start a game without Morata and without Kante, it’s not simple,” Conte, whose side are nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City, told a post-match news conference.

“Above all, if, during the game, another important player in your team has an injury too like Victor Moses … I hope to have him back very soon because this moment is very difficult for us.

“To lose three or four players, it’s a big problem for us. But, despite this, we have to find the will to fight. I think this season will be very difficult and, for this reason, we have to put 150 per cent in.

“It’s not enough to put 100 per cent in like last season. I think this season, me first, the staff and the players have to put in 150 per cent because the season will be very difficult.

“We want to try and be competitive in all competitions, but it won’t be easy.”

Marcelo: Ronaldo Delivers When Madrid Needs Him To

Madrid defender, Marcelo says Cristiano Ronaldo is always on hand to deliver when the club needs him to.

Los Blancos were on the brink of dropping more points against Getafe, after Benzema’s opener was cancelled by Molina.

Ronaldo scored his first Liga goal and the winner in the 85th minute, after converting Isco’s pass.

“We know what Cristiano brings to Madrid. He deserves a lot of credit for all he’s done at Madrid and we know that when he has to show up, he does so,” the Brazilian said.

“That happens in football, I couldn’t tell you why.

“We’re trying to improve with every game, trying to cut the gap to first place and continue fighting for all the points available.”

Marcelo was pleased with his team’s response after conceding, saying: “It’s a difficult place to come, everyone has that extra motivation when they’re playing against Madrid.

“We conceded a goal, I don’t know if it was offside or not but that doesn’t bother me.

“We did a great job, we were able to manage the game well after scoring and we ended up winning it.”

Mertesacker: Arsenal Did Not Make Good Use Of The Ball

Per Mertesacker was unhappy with the fact that his teammates did not rise to challenge after Watford equalised.

The Germany international defender gave Arsenal the lead in the first half. However, a second half penalty from Troy Deeney restored parity.

Mertesacker does not know if the penalty was worth it, but bemoaned the fact that Arsenal became wasteful, as Cleverley scored a late winner.

“I’m not sure, I cannot tell [if it was a penalty]. Honestly, it’s so quick these actions, it’s difficult to judge and the referee made that decision,” the German defender told Arsenal’s website.

“I think for us it was kind of a wake-up call, but it wasn’t loud enough.”

Mertesacker said his team were wasteful in possession against Watford.

“I think that’s what we lacked, especially in the second half. You know when we got the ball we missed a chance, but we missed as well to play, we missed it completely,” he said.

“That’s what we did really well in the first half, where we regained possession, kept possession, that was really good.

“In the second half we just wasted the ball and that’s obviously not enough.

“If you just protect and you have no chances on the break and you miss one chance to kill the game, then it’s difficult in the Premier League to win any game.”
