TRACE GIST: Gospel Music Was Not Financially Rewarding – Simi

Fast rising singer, Simi, recently sat down for an interview with Punch where she talked about her music amongst several other topics.
The delectable singer, who recently dropped  a new song, ‘Live Your Dream‘ featuring D-Truce,shed light on her entry into the music industry and why she decided to switch from gospel to mainstream music.
According to Simi, gospel music wasn’t making her the kind of money she wanted.
Read excerpts from her interview:
You began your career as a gospel act. Why did you go mainstream?
The first thing that comes to the mind is that I did it for monetary reasons. However music became about ‘more’; I wanted to have a broader purview. It was a tough decision for me to make at first. I wanted to explore music more. My faith in God hasn’t waivered because before I went mainstream, I prayed to God to bless my career if it was his plan for me. I also don’t see myself doing gospel music again.
What has fame cost you?
I don’t go out much but I love to go to regular places. I can’t do so any longer and I miss having a regular life because I am a regular girl.
Are you currently dating anyone?
I am in a relationship with someone else who is not Falzthebahdguy; we are just friends.  y man is  mature and understands the fact that I may be erroneously romantically linked with an artiste simply because we work on music projects together.

Tyga “1 of 1″

Upon hearing this song, it’s hard not to think of Drake’s “Controlla,” but Tyga is going from street music to a possible summer single with “1 of 1.” The video goes tropical (as you’d expect), headed all the way out to Jamaica to enjoy the people, even though it’s dangerous out there. Right when he was about to leave, he met Amina Blue (at least as the fictional story goes, since he’s on with Kylie Jenner right now) and the two enjoy each other’s company and exotic views in the country.

TRACE GIST: 4 Reasons Why Artistes Need A PR (Public Relations) Team

The music industry is one of the most competitive industry there is today. Every hour and every minute, a new act emerges who in no time might become the toast of millions.
Now, there are several other acts, who have been in the game for a while but are yet to reach the pinnacle of their success. These acts may be the ones with the powerful vocals, energetic stage performances, awesome fashion sense and what not, still they remain at the very threshold they started a couple of years back, struggling to leave.
There are also a few others, relatively new in the game, who have gone on to achieve great success that has somewhat left many mouths ajar as to how they were able to achieve such great success in no time. How did they achieve this?Through great PR.
A PR agent can make or break you (Topic for another day) but first lets define what PR is. According to Wikipedia, ‘PR is the strategic communication processes that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their public.’ PR majorly enhances your image to the world.
Here are 4 reasons why you need a PR Team immediately;
1. Marketing: You have a brand, now its their duty to sell that brand to the world. This they do in several ways, they organize events which portrays you in positive light, they ensure your album release party goes as planned and has all the right people there, overall, they market you to the world.
2. They analyse your competition: Yes, like I earlier mentioned the music industry is very competitive, so the best way to forge ahead in such industry is know what you are up against. With a R team, your competition is analysed and provides suggestions as to the way forward, in simple term, they are your big thinkers.
3. They handle all your releases: So you have been in the news for a certain bad issue or you just have been nominated for an award, your PR Team handles all press releases( Which today are so badly written some PR actually do a biography instead of press release) speeches, blog contents, inquiries etc.
4. Total Media Coverage: Yes, whatever brand you have chosen to uphold, your PR Team ensures that every aspect of media covers and carries this, this way they help create a rapport between you and your fan base or even people who are just starting to know and get interested in your sound.

TRACE GIST: 5 Publicity Tips Every Unsigned Artistes Should Follow

Yesterday, I published an article about artistes making sure to get a PR (Public relations) team in their fold and even listed out the many benefits they stand to gain from doing this.
Not long after this post was published, I began receiving so many messages from upcoming acts asking for ways they can still manage to get their music heard without having to employ a PR Team just yet (For obvious reasons).
Most acts in the upper echelon of the industry have little or no time whatsoever to listen to a newbie in the game, the music business is what I like to call a private club, you are either in or out.
Having to use the ‘Black Art’ of the music industry is no easy task, but again, the key word is try, try, try, until someone listens.(Of course, your work has to be good).
Here are 5 PR tips every unsigned/upcoming acts can use to promote their brand/sound.
  1. EPK (Electronic press kit): This is highly important as it contains your contact info, HD photos of yourself, your music and every other information you need to introduce your person to anyone willing to finally give you a chance to. This kind of kit can be in CD (Which is somewhat not commonly used anymore), could be in form of your website, e.t.c. Now most EPK’s get trashed, but to make your own stand out, ensure you go straight to the point, No one wants to listen to the oooo la las in a song for 5 minutes before finally getting to the hook. (I mean can we have the song already?!!!!)
  2. Social Networking Sites: You use twitter, Facebook and every other social media site out there already for pleasure, why not use it for business too. Upload your songs on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter e.t.c, its by fa the cheapest way to reach millions of people with no fee involved. Ensure to keep your friends and followers on these platforms updated of any new information about you or your sound.
  3. Start Small: Contact that local DJ’s in your area and have him play your song whenever he needs to go entertain at a party. Try and increase the number of DJ’s you hand your CDs to, this way, you cover more grounds with your music. Also, get in touch with music writers and bloggers, contact them and have them take a listen and even review your songs if need be.This way, you have something to add to your press kit.
  4. Get Radio play: Personally, I feel upcoming acts should strive to get radio play before fighting for a spot on music blogs, here is why. When your song, which of course must be good, enjoys radio play, maybe once or even twice, people, will want to know who sang the song, questions will begin to be asked and that way you are gradually on your way to getting the publicity your sound deserves. Now, I know, it could be difficult getting airplay on major radio stations, why not start small, visit local and small radio stations, University radio stations, have them play your song on air, after all, the youths are like 80% your target audience.
  5. Contact Music Blogs: Yes, your song is enjoying radio play, people are jamming and falling in love with it and they need a platform to download, then send an email to music blogs requesting that your song be posted on their sites. Yes, I know, so many of you will say, ‘We send thousands of mails everyday, but you guys do not reply or post.’ It’s simple, if your song is good, your artwork is fantastic and your fans bombard the comment section and email (Don’t do this though) asking that we have the song uploaded, then absolutely nothing will stop your song from being posted on the site. Another point, if your song is that good,  trust me, you will have no need contacting music blogs to have it posted on their website, they will go out of there way to have it on the site.
